Although ancient coins might look much the same at first glance, no two coins are exactly alike. Each coin was hand punched which is why so many were struck weakly or off center.

While the bust of the reigning emperor usually occupied the obverse of these coins, the reverse design included family members, ancestral history, military triumphs or deities representing prosperity, harmony, peace and other virtues.
