Colt produced a patent for the percussion revolvers in 1836. After several years of making “Patterson” revolvers (named after the town in New Jersey where he had his factory), Colt suspended operations to re-organize and gain capital.

In 1847 he produced the now legendary “walker” Colts at Eli Whitney Jr.’s factory in New Haven, CT. The Hartford CT Colt factory began production with the 1848 “Dragoons”
The Colt “Model 1849 Pocket Revolver” was the next pistol that the Colt factory manufactured after the “Dragoons.”
The Colt “Model 1851 “Navy Revolver” was the next pistol that the Colt factory manufactured after the 1849 were produced through the Civil War.

Almost all percussion Colts had a New York address. Most guns shipped to the South had the “Hartford”
